Currency
The currency used in Latvia is the Lat. The equivalent of one lat is 1.9 Canadian dollars. Initially the currency was the rublis; however, the lat replaced it in 1922. The coins used in lat currency are: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 santīmu and 1,2 and 5 lati. The banknotes used were: 20, 25, 50 and 100 lati; however, in 1925, the governemnts issued 10 and 20 latu. In 1993, the lats were reintroduced and replaced the Latvian rublis. Originally, Latvia planned to adopt the Euro; however, it decided against it. It is speculated that Latvia may adopt the Euro in 2014. Below, you can see a chart that gives you details about the currency:
